Selecting Lighting Fixtures For Home
It is very important to first understand the needs and only then go for selecting lighting fixtures for home. You should have a clear picture in mind about the lights required in different areas of your home, where to put task lights and where to install accent lights?
Task lighting is needed for areas where tasks like reading, writing, etc. is done, where you need direct and focused light to perform specific tasks. A desk lamp is the most common example of task lighting.
Since task lights are used for completing specific task, they are generally used continuously for a short time period as once the job is done, you no longer need it. Overhead reading lamps and picture lights are some other examples of task lighting.
Accent lights are the mood lights. They are the mood setters for a place. You can create any kind of environment using these fixtures. Use different levels of lighting in different areas and place them to highlight special features of the room. This way you can give your room a very beautiful look.
Accent lamps, desk lamps, floor lamps all can be used as accent lighting fixtures. They are not used to light up the entire space but to accent only certain areas to give a different feel to the room. Placing accent lamps on the side table or a book case can look good.
Floor lamps that are designed not to spread their light too far are wonderful for creating an inviting area. Placing a floor lamp next to a comfortable reading chair, will create an area that just invites you to relax.
Accent lights can also be used in a TV room. Placing accent lights near the television can reduce glare and you can watch TV without straining your eyes and without loosing the mood of the event.
Generally, rooms are used for many activities. So you might have to install more than one type of lighting fixture in a room. For example a room can be used for both, doing homework and watching TV. So, you can use a desk lamp and soft accent light on a sofa table for the purpose.
