Killing Common Indoor Bugs

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Some of the most common indoor bugs we see anywhere in the world are flies, spiders, fleas and beetles. Nobody likes to have a bug indoors, so most people will go to just about any extremes to eradicate these common indoor bugs. The less common indoor bugs may be woodlice, earwigs, scorpions and millipedes or centipedes, although they are not less wanted.

It does not matter where you are in the world, it is very difficult to keep these common indoor bugs outside, unless you go to the extremes of keeping all your windows and doors shut all of the time, which is quite impossible. I now live in Thailand and I know for sure that this is not possible.

So, just what can you do about it? Well, let’s deal with all the flying insects first, because of all the common indoor bugs, I think they are the most unpleasant indoor bug. They are very irritating, buzzing around your head and mosquitoes and other flies can create irritating sores and besides that, all flies carry disease. I cannot bear to see them walking on food, knowing that they have more than likely just come off some dog’s muck somewhere and now they are spitting on my food to taste it with their grubby feet!

Keeping Cats Out Of The Garden

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

It is very hard to keep cats out of your garden, but do not give up, it can be done. Cat owners may not appreciate why gardeners want to prevent cats gaining access to their gardens, but there are valid reasons, it is not always that gardeners hate cats. Cats are ferocious hunters and can also be very destructive.

For example, my next door neighbour had a cat, but felt lonely when her daughter moved away, so she permitted the cat to to have young. Now she has six cats. But cats are not like dogs. My dog stays in my garden not upsetting anyone apart from by barking if a stranger walks past the gate However, that is his job and he is not only telling me but the neighbours as well. These six cats do not stay in their own garden though, so we have all acquired six cats whether we want them or not.

The first problem I became aware of was that birds stopped coming to pick my dog’s bowl clean in the afternoon. Then I saw a cat eating a lizard, a beautiful nine inch specimen and then I remembered not seeing a lot of lizards lately. There is one lizard, the Tokay, that they have completely wiped out – I used to listen to them calling at night, but no more.

Ways To Buy Your Household Decor At Low Prices

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

We all know that when we are putting a home together it can be very expensive; the best way to make this easier on your pocket is to buy things from a lot of different places instead of just heading to a store and getting it all together.

Shop around and check out places that you wouldn’t normally think of, such as market places, garage sales, Craigslist and even neighbours. The amount of stuff you can pick up from the classified ads is amazing.

If you are on a tight budget, the classified ads on this site will uncover lots of quality goods at a great price. Saving 50% is nothing to sniff at.

The bottom rung of furniture sales are garage sales. The weekend ones tend to be the best, and there are some bargains to be had if you look hard enough.

When you go to garage and yard sales don’t expect top quality stuff at rock bottom prices, this is generally merchandise that they don’t expect will make enough to warrant a classified ad. Saying that, even if you don’t buy anything, they are great for getting ideas from, and that battered old chest of drawers could look great with a lick of paint and new handles.

Uses For Wicker Baskets In The Home

Wicker baskets are created using willow, rush, cane, reed or other plant materials that are pliable when they are wet. When the substance dries, the product will retain its shape for years to come. These items have many useful purposes around the home and they create a stylish way to contain different products. They can be purchased online, in stores, and even at flea markets, antique shops, and garage sales.

Organic, Healthy Dog Food

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

The requirement of healthy, organic food appears to apply equally to animals as to people, because many pet owners prefer to buy organic foods to feed man’s best friend. One could be forgiven for being surprised by the vast variety of organic dog food available on the market. Just like for humans, there are many of pet illnesses that one could cure or even prevent completely by the use of organic pet food.

For instance, organic dog food could reduce the chance of the dog developing skin diseases and allergies. The explanation for the positive health impact is the absence of additives, chemicals, colourants and pesticides. Instead the ingredients of organic dog food are simply grain extracts and high quality proteins. Organic dog food contains more nourishment, which is obvious from the higher levels of energy and the weight of the pet.

Healthy, organic dog food contains more nutrients, which is reflected in the higher levels of energy and the normal weight of the dog. Furthermore, ordinary dog food can cause diabetes and excess weight with all the concomitant problems that accompany these illnesses: back ailment, organ failure and decreased mobility. How can organic dog food help here, then? Well, simply because organic pet food does not contain bulk filler; they are nutrient-packed products that create energy not fat. Moreover, it is best and definitely a lot easier to prevent health problems than try to cure them later.

Exterior Shutters For Security And Lighting Purposes

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

When you want to add style to your house, one way of doing so and adding security at the same time, is by having window shutters fixed to the outside of your house. Exterior window shutters add a traditional, Mediterranean look to a building. These days, most houses have glass windows, but before that, people used shutters to adjust the light levels, stop insects and the cold from entering and for protection.

Exterior window shutters are available in many different shapes and made from various materials, although the most common ones are wooden and oblong. The quality of the materials used will influence how long your shutters will last, because, as with all exterior goods, they will be exposed to all forms of extreme weather conditions.

Plastic, vinyl, metal and wooden shutters are available at many home improvement centres. Although they look fantastic, shutters also have practical uses. They can prevent glaring noon sunlight from over heating your home as well as offering protection.

Cedar wood is a good choice, as are most other hard woods. Hardwoods are more resistant to rain and sunlight and, so long as they are painted, varnished or oiled regularly – at least once a year – then your shutters will give you ten or more years of good service.
