Inspecting Septic Tank Is Essential Before Purchasing A House

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Many of us do not consider about septic system inspection before buying a house or negotiating the price of the house. However, it is essential in many states and it is the law that you get it checked before you finalize or buy any property.

As the potential home buyer you might think it’s an unnecessary expense and it’s only going to add on to the purchase price of the house. But actually, it’s a pretty sensible investment as a septic system inspection will only cost you a couple of hundred dollars and it might save you tens of thousands.

Nobody wants to buy a house and spend $10,000 or $20,000 for getting the septic tank repaired in just a week or two. However, over time a drain field can become clogged and you might not even notice it.

It might reach certain point where it becomes impossible to repair and effluent starts leaking into the surrounding soil and ground water causing pollution and spreading bacteria throughout the whole area, not just your yard.

Steps To Be Followed Wg Ahile Installin Bath Tub

Friday, April 30th, 2010

If you want to install a bat tub in your bathroom then before installing it at desired position, fit the overflow, taps and trap first as it will become difficult to do it once the bath is fitted against the wall. You also need to put some adjustable feet on the bottom on the bath in such a manner that you can raise the rim of the bath at the required height.

If you have separate taps for hot and cold water then you would just fit these as you would do for a washbasin. If you have a mixer tap, you must be supplied with a long sealing gasket. This long sealing gasket slips over both tails by lowering the tails through the holes in the rim.

Put top-hat washers over them and tight both of the back-nuts well to secure the mixer properly on the bath tub. Use around 22mm flexible copper pipe and fit it onto each of the tails.

These flexible pipes are very helpful as they make the adjustment easy that might be required when the joints are slightly misaligned. On the other hand, you may also attach short lengths of standard 22mm (3/4inch) copper or plastic pipe with tap connectors.

Initially toilets using 1.6 gallon of water, use to get frequently clogged. However over the past several years suppliers have improved the performance of these low water-use systems.

Troubleshooting Hydronic Zone Valve Problems

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Hydronic zone valve usually works in a hot water heating system. The valves are used in conjunction with thermostat, a transformer, a circulator pump and the boiler. When the temperature of thermostat is raised higher than the temperature of room then zone valve gets turned on and hot water is circulated in the heating zone via heating elements.

However, when you want to check whether the zone valve is working properly or not, you need to set the thermostat at its highest level and try to hear the sound of hot water circulation through the heating elements. In case, you are not able to hear anything then pull down the lever on the zone valve to open the valve.

The problem incurred in moving down the zone valve could also give you a rough idea. If the zone was easily moved down then zone valve is in good working order and if it was difficult to pull it down then it might have some problem in it.

While pulling down the zone valve, if some resistance was felt then the hot water should begin to circulate around the heating elements related with that particular zone. However, if hot water does not start circulating then there could be a problem in the zone valve, circulator pump or boiler.

A Guide To Septic Tank Working

Monday, April 5th, 2010

A sewerage drain field and a septic tank make up a small scale sewage treatment system. A septic tank is basically a rectangular shaped underground receptacle for waste water. It is made of concrete and consists of tanks that are divided into chambers. The first chamber has twice the volume as the second and the majority of the organic solid matter, referred to as sludge, settles here. The second chamber further purifies the waste water.

In a septic tank waste from toilets, showers, sinks, etc is collected. Since there is not much movement of water in the septic tank therefore, the solid particles easily settle to the bottom of the tank and bacteria present inside the tank breaks this solid.

A septic tank should be constructed such that there is maximum contact time with the microorganisms so as to enable swifter digestion of the sludge. This is achieved by placing the inlet, overflow and outlet diagonal to each other and by making the streams flow in vertically placed pipes.

The semi-purified water moves to the second chamber via the overflows that are constructed such that the upward motion of water prevents larger particles from flowing into the second chamber.
