Hydronic zone valve usually works in a hot water heating system. The valves are used in conjunction with thermostat, a transformer, a circulator pump and the boiler. When the temperature of thermostat is raised higher than the temperature of room then zone valve gets turned on and hot water is circulated in the heating zone via heating elements.
However, when you want to check whether the zone valve is working properly or not, you need to set the thermostat at its highest level and try to hear the sound of hot water circulation through the heating elements. In case, you are not able to hear anything then pull down the lever on the zone valve to open the valve.
The problem incurred in moving down the zone valve could also give you a rough idea. If the zone was easily moved down then zone valve is in good working order and if it was difficult to pull it down then it might have some problem in it.
While pulling down the zone valve, if some resistance was felt then the hot water should begin to circulate around the heating elements related with that particular zone. However, if hot water does not start circulating then there could be a problem in the zone valve, circulator pump or boiler.

A sewerage drain field and a septic tank make up a small scale sewage treatment system. A septic tank is basically a rectangular shaped underground receptacle for waste water. It is made of concrete and consists of tanks that are divided into chambers. The first chamber has twice the volume as the second and the majority of the organic solid matter, referred to as sludge, settles here. The second chamber further purifies the waste water.
In a septic tank waste from toilets, showers, sinks, etc is collected. Since there is not much movement of water in the septic tank therefore, the solid particles easily settle to the bottom of the tank and bacteria present inside the tank breaks this solid.
A septic tank should be constructed such that there is maximum contact time with the microorganisms so as to enable swifter digestion of the sludge. This is achieved by placing the inlet, overflow and outlet diagonal to each other and by making the streams flow in vertically placed pipes.
The semi-purified water moves to the second chamber via the overflows that are constructed such that the upward motion of water prevents larger particles from flowing into the second chamber.

In case your toilet is damaged or has incurred some problem then it is advised to replace it with a new one. Installing a new toilet is not a cumbersome job and can be done in an afternoon. Along with many toilets you will get gaskets, washers and hardware for fitting the tank to the bowl.
However you might need to buy a few parts like toilet bowl, toilet tank, toilet seat, two 1/4″ bolts for bowl to flange, wax ring, 20″ water supply with fitting at valve or floor connection and tools like pair of channel pliers, bucket and screw driver for installing a new toilet.
Before stating the installation, shut off the water to the toilet. Now remove the water left in tank and bowl after you flush the toilet. Using a pair of channel pliers or a small pipe wrench (8″), remove the nut where the water line fastens to the ballcock valve.
After this, use crescent wrench to loosen two 1/4″ nuts which connect the bowl to the floor flange. Once the nuts get loosened, you can easily remove your old toilet and start installing the new one.

A leaky shower head can be both irritating and costly. The constant dripping noise of leaky shower head is irritating and it also results in wastage of a lot of water. Constant leakage might add an extra zero to the end of your water bill.
Many homeowners consider that leaking of shower head is a big problem and for repairing it they need to hire a plumber. But in actual, a homeowner can solve the problem himself. Tools required for repairing a leaky shower head are: a screwdriver, an adjustable wrench and a washer which can be obtained from any of the near by hardware store.
Once you have decided to take on the job yourself, you need to understand the two most common things that go wrong with shower heads. Either they start leaking at the point where the pipe screws into the actual shower head or the holes in the shower head become clogged, causing water backups and creating a leak.
To start with, unscrew the shower head from the outlet pipe. Drape a towel around the point where the head screws onto the outlet piping so that you can prevent any damage to the shower head.

If your home gets the water supply from a private well then you must be having a large metal tank known as a water pressure tank. This tank is situated near the place where water pipe comes in from the well. Water pressure tanks work in conjunction with private wells to supply water to your home.
Water pressure tanks not only maintain a constant water pressure inside the house but it also adds years to the life of submersible well pump and conserves water inside it.
A water pressure tank is a large steel tank that contains a rubber diaphragm in it that separates the pressure tank into two sections. The upper section of the tank is filled with air. As water feeds into the bottom of the tank the rubber diaphragm is forced upwards toward the top of the tank and compresses the air.
With the help of a pressure switch, the pressure in the tank is kept constant between a range of 20 and 60 pounds per square inch or PSI. So when someone turns on a water faucet in the home the water pressure tank supplies a relative constant water pressure to the faucet.

No part of the house is more important than plumbing. Nothing in the house is used more often. A smoothly functioning plumbing system is a pin to health and adds to the convenience of modern living. However most of the homeowners neglect maintaining this very need of the house. Long avoiding the fault may hurt the integrity of your plumbing setup to a large extent.
You must have heard the saying “Flaws appear minor at first sight turn more daunting if left unnoticed for a long time”. Same is the case with the leaks, holes and seepage in the plumbing. Such irregularities allow the water to creep into the internal structure of your walls and ceilings. A neglected plumbing will collect late fees from your pocket whereas regular timely checkup will avoid worries and extra expenses.
Repair any dripping faucets inside and/or outside your home at the first sign of a leak. Letting them leak and waiting to make repairs only makes them harder to fix, and may ruin them all together. To maintain energy efficient plumbing you need to take charge and act now. Examine them meticulously.
